The project is sited on the edge of a small peninsula , looking out towards the Betty’s Bay surf break. The site’s dune landscape informed the dwelling’s design in section, creating high pressure and low pressure zones to cater for the area’s wind and sand movement. The plan staggers and walks out into the contour of the dune, creating exterior pockets and a continuous dialect between the manmade and the natural landscape.
The house boasts refined tectonic details which translate to its simple modern form. Large glass openings look out to the panoramic views and exposed timber structures connect the mountain to the sea. Internally, the space is characterized by natural light and large open views. The living space frames a linear view of the ocean’s horizon towards the North. The use of natural materials and simple forms compliment the surrounding landscape.
